Rajapur Community Building Project Exhibition Features in London Architecture Diary - March 2018

We are delighted that Mannan Foundation trustee Tumpa Fellows is the Guest Editor for the prestigious London Architecture Diary. The London Architecture Diary is managed by New London Architecture (NLA), an independent forum for discussion, debate and information about architecture, planning, development and construction in the capital.

Every month architects and industry insiders share their recommendations for the best exhibitions and events to visit in London. For the month of March our trustee was invited to be the Guest Editor to share her recommendations for architectural events, exhibitions, debates etc in London. The exhibition for the Rajapur Women's Literacy and Healthcare Centre features in this article and is amongst the highlighted events taking place in London. You are invited to our NLA Exhibition - Celebrating our Success! (3 March - 28 April 2018)

Visit the exhibition by Mannan Foundation Trust which is hosted by NLA (New London Architecture) at the Building Centre in Central London. We are celebrating our community led project in a remote village in Bangladesh, the Rajapur Women’s Literacy and Healthcare Centre, this exhibition illustrates the collective effort of the professionals living and working in London, who kindly volunteered for this charity project.

The Rajapur Centre has been delivered by Mannan Foundation Trust, a UK registered charity which helps disadvantaged people living in rural Bangladesh. The aim of the Centre is to address social issues and gender inequality. The Centre empowers disadvantaged women by providing income generating and literacy skills and offers free healthcare for the community.

This project is not only set to transform the lives of women in Rajapur, but will be a template that can be used in many rural communities across the Indian sub-continent. This is a transformative project led by a London based, young British architect (our Trustee Tumpa Fellows) of Bangladeshi origin, passionate about improving the lives and health of the next generation of women in Bangladesh.

London Metropolitan University Lecture - CASS School of Creative Arts - MFT Trustee Tumpa Fellows - presents at the "Who Cares?" Lecture Series

 26th February 2018 – Mannan Foundation’s Trustee Tumpa Fellows -  presented the Rajapur Women's Literacy and Healthcare Centre project to the academics and students of Masters in Architecture course at the CASS, London Metropolitan University. She shared self-initiated architectural projects in marginalised communities in developing countries. Her lecture included the research methods, the process of setting up a network of contacts and relationships, the challenges encountered during construction and reflections on how successful the  realised projects were in benefitting the communities in rural Bangladesh.

Free Healthcamp in the new Rajapur Building – 2nd January 2018

Mannan Foundation has been hosting free health camps since 2011. This is our first free health camp in our new Rajapur Community building. Our trustee Dr. Nilufar Fatema has led the healthcamp with additional doctor Dr. Mahbub Alam who has kindly volunteered his services.

The free healthcamps are extremely popular. We were able to distribute free medicine which were donated by several Pharmaceutical companies.
We thank all our volunteers who kindly gave up their time to help organise the healthcamp.

Our Trustees Mrs. Razia Begum, Ms. Tumpa Husna Yasmin Fellows and Mannan Foundation Trust’s supporter David Fellows travelled to Rajapur village to help organise the event. Our gratitude to them all.
